Catholic Schools Week!

This weeks marks Catholic Schools Week around the country.  Catholic Schools, both elementary and secondary, will be patting themselves on the back.  Why?

Here are just a few reasons:

  • Catholic schools consistently score higher in both reading and math than their public school alternatives
  •  There are 6,980 Catholic schools: 5,774 elementary; 1,206 secondary in the U.S.
  • There are over 2 million Catholic school students in the U.S. (30% are minorities and almost 15% are non-Catholics)
  • Catholic schools report fewer disciplinary problems than in public schools
  • Source: NCEA enrollment data

Imagine that: over 2 million students receiving a high quality of education, all rooted in the Catholic tradition.  This is good news and a message that we can share with others over and over again.

  • You can do this in casual conversation at the grocery store, during a sporting event or at your church.
  • You can do this by putting a Morris Catholic magnet on the back of your car.
  • You can do this by wearing your Morris Catholic gear when you run errands on the weekend.

I’m proud of our Catholic schools and (of course!) Morris Catholic Junior and High School.  Our students are amazing, partly due to the morals passed on to them from their parents and partly due to the dedication of our gifted faculty.  They are well-behaved, high achieving students who time and time again impress.  We hear this from local shop-owners in Denville and from opposing teams who compete against Morris Catholic.  Our kids are different- successful and humble.

The message is clear: Catholic schooling works.  I am in touch, literally each week, with alumni from past decades.  They are respected leaders in their given professions and it’s always great to bridge their experience with the daily opportunities that our current students enjoy.

Here is a homework assignment for each reader to this blog: refer someone to Morris Catholic.  Admissions information is HERE and prospective students can visit campus any weekday.  There is still time to apply and we just may have room for more students.  Ready?  Go to it and refer someone today to Morris Catholic…there’s no better time than the present to continue the message of Catholic schools.

The Church in 1972 stated, ““Their importance [of Catholic schools] is in fact greater now than ever before.”  We can all agree with that.

Apple Recommits to Schools- Wow!

Last week Apple changed the game of education again.  Not since the 1980’s have we seen a tech company dive into the pool in such a dramatic way.

Here’s my post on the entire event and how I think it will impact teachers and students.
